THE ORIGINS OF HALLOWEVE

Long ago, the Great Mother Hen looked upon the Egg Folk and knew that the greatest sorrow they would ever carry was the loss of those they loved. Though every life must one day return to the spirit realm, she promised that love would never be broken by death alone.

So, once each year, as autumn reached its final days and the harvest drew to a close, she gently parted the veil between the world of the living and the world beyond. On that sacred night, the spirits of departed Egg Folk could draw near to the homes and families they had once cherished.

The Egg Folk welcomed them with glowing candles to guide their way, tables filled with their favorite foods, and grateful hearts filled with stories of days gone by. It was said that while no spirit could remain until morning, each carried home the love of those who remembered them and, in return, left behind quiet blessings for the year ahead.

But as the veil grew thin, not every spirit that wandered was kind. Mischievous and malevolent spirits also sought to cross into the world of the living. To protect their homes, the wisest among the Egg Folk carved fearsome faces into autumn gourds and placed a glowing candle within each one. The eerie light and watchful faces were believed to frighten evil spirits, warning them that the house was protected and that they were not welcome there.

To honor the countless souls who had walked the Eggverse before them, young and old alike dressed as gentle spirits and the great heroes of ages past, remembering that every legend, every family, and every kingdom had been built by those who came before.

And so, every Halloweve, when candlelight flickers beneath the autumn moon, the Egg Folk gather among the resting places of their ancestors—not to mourn, but to remember. They leave gifts of food, share stories of those they have lost, seek the wisdom of their forebears, and place glowing jack-o'-lanterns beside their doors to keep darkness at bay.

For they believe that so long as a loved one is remembered, their spirit is never truly far away, and that while the light of memory welcomes those who come in peace, the light of the jack-o'-lantern ensures that only peace may enter the home.
